The final tally for Derek's dives for July and August

In a tense count, overseen by auditors from Deloitte Touche, the following tally was confirmed as being the grand total of dives completed by Derek during the last two months:

70

the winners of the sweepstake are: Kevin Fleming (69) and Delia ní Chíobháin (71)

I'm sure that Kevin would love to help Delia in her studies and forward the grand total of €24 to her, the same is on its way to the Seal Sanctuary. Thanks to everyone who took part.

Myrtle the Turtle in Dingle, Most Beaudacious, Dude!

She's a he. No, she's definitely a she. No! Look at the tail, it's a he. It's a she and her name is “Myrtle”. Are you a turtle expert? Well in fact, I am. Opps, sorry then!

She was caught in an illegal net, ahem, I should say some lobster pot lines – happens every day don't you know? Anyway, she was brought ashore and placed in a tank at the Dinlge Aquarium, so some lads from Universtiy College Cork could put a satelite tag on her. She is now the first Leatherback Turtle in Europe to have been tagged. Forget the media reports, she was about 5 foot long, 4 foot wide and 30 years old, but I've never seen anything as big as her in Toffs nightclub even on a New Years eve night (although I'm quite sure that Kevin has met with creatures of this sort on his travels in Donegal). It was a sight to warm the heart when they released her from Cuas, down the boat slip, back to her natural environment – travelling from the Atlantic from Ireland Carribean and back.
