The Mega Update or Boy Have We Been
Leaving Brighton
Seems like ages ago – ok it was only a fortnight! Two trips to the charity shop and still we had a row of stuff stacked outside the house that couldn't fit in the car, how much crap can you collect in a two bed flat? Should you ever pass through the town of Brighton then we can highly recommend you should try at least some of the following:
Leaving England – Lisa
Lisa will soon be producing her definitive work on “The Bars of Irish Cross Channel Ferries”, she will also insist that she was purely tired from driving not from the session with the truckers. She managed to get the Fiesta all the
way to Dingle with no incidents which was no small task, considering that the car was full to bursting with all our worldly goods.
Leaving England – Derek
How many leaving do's can any one man need? What can I say, I was a broken man after four days on the lash – Karenann can attest to the state I was in heading
for Stansted on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who made the effort to add a decade at least to my liver. Phil, you'll be glad to hear that I had “The Fear” big time on the flight – the crying babies were really helpful too. PS Derek's travelling tip of the week #23: Never book a Ryanair flight that leaves Stansted at 06:25 unless you want to spend the night curled up on the floor at self same airport, ahem!
Settling in Dingle
How to find accommodation in Dingle? I am going to skip the prosaic process
that was involved in finding a place to live. Needless to say it involved supplications to St Jude, St Anthony and the local TD! But a place to live was found. We've now moved into our one room stone cottage near Ventry, 10 kms west of Dingle – bang in the heart of the Gaeltacht. Pros: 5 mins walk from Ventry beach, 10 mins from Paidi O'Se's pub and 0.5 secs from a real fire. Cons: Irish weather ;o) All visitors are welcome, but they should bear in mind they'll be
staying in the loft, we've gone very rustic. We'll upload some photos of the cottage and Ventry beach and harbour in the near future -when the sun comes out!
Wednesday 1stJune
First lesson on boat handling!! Neal took us out in the dive centre's RIB – 8.5
metres with two 90 HP engines – beats the hell out of catching the tube. Practiced all the skills required for Powerboat 2 licence, figures of eight, mooring and handling the boat in different wave conditions, even reversing. Fungi joined in for the second half of the lesson and did an impressive display of full flips as we spedback to the harbour.

Should you ever pass through the town of Brighton then we can highly recommend you should try at least some of the following:
- Watch the sun set from the “Setting Sun” pub on Windmill St. Well worth the walk up the hill for a great view on the terrace.
- Create a milkshake at Shakeaway. I recommend Meringue/Raspberry/blended cream, or Lisa recommends the healthy option of Weetabix/Banana/Flake (not sure how healthy that is in reality)
- Eat at Food for Friends, even I found a veggie dish that I liked
- For great Thai food eat at Sawadee on James St
- For good food try “The No Name Place” on James St. The pigeon starter is fantastic
- For pubs you could just pub crawl along Southover St, no stag dos and “The Greys” is an Egon Ronay rated restaurant.
- If you're wandering through The North Laines, then try the bourittos from Hell's Kitchen Cafe
- Grab a movie on Sunday evening at “The Eagle”
